Impermanence and change are an inextricable part of life. This means that grief and loss are likewise an inextricable part of the human experience. This is not a problem, though it can feel like one because grief and loss can be extremely intense, disorienting, and painful.

We often struggle with the range of emotions that accompany loss: sadness, anger, betrayal, depression, relief, guilt, despair, and numbness, among others. Mainstream American culture does not support the full process of grief but rather urges people to skip over the loss and “get over it” or “move on.” Sometimes we want to get through it as fast as possible too because it is painful to be with the loss.

However, grief is a powerful transformative process and, with support, can deepen our sense of appreciation for our life, our world, and our relationships. Depending on the situation, loss can be a form of trauma and requires time, kind attention, and trust in oneself in order to heal. Lodi can help provide the environment where all the different elements of grief can have their say and work their magic on our hearts.
